• I am obsessed, and I mean OBSESSED, with these guides. They have never led me astray and I have traveled with them all over the world. If they made one for Schenectady, NY...(trying to think of less...glamorous destinations, we'll say) ...I would probably attempt to visit because I'd know it would be FABULOUS!
  
  These are most definitely not for everyone though. If you are a student, on a tight budget or don't know how to pronounce the word "luxe" then move on. This guide is for travelers looking for THE BEST of the best, and who are secure in their own tastes enough to know it. My husband? NOT a sophisticated international traveler. He would not really benefit from these guides -- he is not into shopping and doesn't like fancy/exclusive restaurants, so I don't usually take them when we vacation together. But personally, I can't get enough of them.
  
  Why? The specific, insider-y information makes me feel like a rockstar. In partic, I love the shopping itineraries -- the ones for Madrid were particularly good -- even when I don't actually purchase anything. They are divided by area, so you can hit a whole district's boutiques at once. The stores and restaurants mentioned in the itineraries are also cross-referenced on other pages under headings like "brunch" or "top shopping." Personally, I can think of nothing more fun than strolling around stores in a foreign city. Again, I know this is not everyone's idea of a good time. They would NOT be into the Luxe guides, though.
  
  The food recommendations are impeccable, too. Our concierge in Madrid suggested some of the same places that I had read about in Luxe -- it was like they were "double approved" so that's never a bad thing!
  
  Just a tip though these don't have maps in them or visual depictions of anything, so you really have to commit to reading them in detail and then locating them on a map later. But anyone who is still considering buying this guide shouldn't be deterred by that though. My solution is to take a map or use my smartphone to see streets/areas that are mentioned in the guides just to make sure I am not getting lost.
  
  Summary do you like the BEST (and sometimes most expensive) stores, restaurants, clubs, hotels and spas? If yes, then buy this guide! If this isn't your scene, no big deal - there are plenty of other good guides that suit different types of travelers.

• I bought this guide along with another and a map of Madrid. I found the information in the guide to be accurate but catty and surely designed for a 20-30 year old crowd. I would not buy any other LUXE guides.
• As someone who resides in Madrid, I was pleasantly surprised at how great this "guide" is. Note this is not a guidebook. It is a foldup paper that easily slips into your purse or jacket pocket. It is now what I take out with me when I'm out and about during the day or night. Its recommendations are spot on, covering restaurants and bars that you'd never find in other guidebooks. (Other guidebooks for Madrid send you to horrible touristy places) It's a great reference and I agree with all of the comments and guidance contained in it.
  
  If you want a big touristy guidebook that will have you dining, drinking, and dancing alongside hordes of other tourists don't buy this. If you want to see the best of Madrid without Rick Steves guidebook-toting crowds, buy the Luxe Guide.
